On this spot, on the the night of 31 October 1981, Lily and James Potter lost their lives. Their son, Harry, remains the only wizard ever to have survived the Killing Curse. This house, invisible to Muggles, has been left in its ruined state as a monument to the Potters and as a reminder of the violence that tore apart their family.
She loved her life; it was bright and precious and unlived. In all other circumstances, she would have held to it fast. But in that moment, for her son, it was a gift freely given. (x)
He struts angrily through the corridors, looking down and breathing slowly while a bunch of other students have the misfortune to walk by him; he’s accidentally hit about four of them so far, including Sirius who did not hesitate to shout ‘WATCH WHERE YOU’RE GOING YOU BUGGER’ even though professor McGonagall was standing right there. He considers going back to the Gryffindor tower without dinner just to end this poor excuse of a day sooner, but then his stubbornness takes the best of him and he quickens his pace. Why should he have to hide from the world when he’s done nothing wrong? She should be the one -this bloody walking riddle of a woman- to be hiding, and drowing in remorse and begging him to forgive her.
“Hi James.” Lily is standing at the Great Hall’s doorway, waiting for him. She doesn’t exactly seem like she has spent any time drowing in remorse either: she has a rather big grin on her face and damn her, for several seconds she makes James forget what he’s even mad about. “If you want to hit me again, I’m not available at the moment. Go see if Sirius is up for a nice slap in the face.” He tries his best to sound extremely upset (which he was a minute ago) and emotionaly distant. “Oh come off it you big baby! You just had really bad timing this morning. And I took it out on you. No need to make a fuss about it.” “A fuss about it?” James hissed. “A fuss about it? Lily! You slapped me and threw your Charms book on my head! And you think you’re getting off without even an apology?!” “Fine!” Lily threw her arms in the air to admit defeat and then looked down as if she suddenly found the floor particularly fascinating. “I was just crossed at…well someone else and I just saw you there and took it out on you.” She finally met his gaze. “I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.” Her hands cupped his face and she gave him a gentle kiss. Pulling away, she kept on smiling. “Forgive me?” “About what?”
